THE WHAT & WHY OF ARTLAB™ ArtLab™ was established in April of 2004 by Toronto design firm AmoebaCorp co-creative directors Mikey Richardson and Michael Kelar. Artlab™ was born from the desire to help bridge the gap between art, design and corporate culture. ArtLab™ is about experimenting and collaborating with multi-disciplinary artists to create engaging art based projects and products to be delivered to the public. Artlab™ is made up of two main areas of visual exploration; ArtLab™ On-Site and ArtLab™ Off-Site. ArtLab™ On-site The ArtLab™ gallery/retail shop is a physical space where the creative people at AmoebaCorp and selected contributors are able to showcase their talent. Unlike other conventional galleries, Artlab is a place to discover unique art + design based products from local and international creators working in a variety of mediums. Whether these limited edition pieces are in the form of a painting, poster, pillow or a found object, the intent of the ArtLab™ gallery is to help inspire, educate and push the boundaries of art and design culture. For those that can't make it to the space, artlab.ca features a sampling of what's available. ArtLab™ Off-site With a focus on art & design culture, ArtLab™ is also called upon by the corporate world to help create and collaborate on innovative off-sight commercial art based projects including exhibitions & events, installations, product development and art object retailing. Whether commissioned as artists or curators to assemble art based programs, the ArtLab™ team is always looking to work on unique projects that challenge the relationship of art and commerce. |
